Wella Contura Shaver
This is the most important tool you will use. You can groom anywhere on your dog and NOT worry about cutting them. |

Yutokuban Ear Tape
This tape is the best tape for taping ears. |

|
 |
Perma Type Surgical Cement and Uni Solve Adhesive Romover
Sometimes I will use this glue on the tape that I apply to the ears for a little extra hold.
The Uni Solve
will take any extra tape residue and wax build-up out of their ears so the tape adheres better. |

Example of Tape Pieces for Ears
The size of the tape really depends on how big the ear is. This is an example of the size I cut. |

Braun Contour 5790
This is a great shaver for getting the hair off the hairless dogs. It has a trimmer on the side that slides forward so you can get a few straggling hairs without having to get your Wella out.
Make sure if you don't get this model that you buy one with a straight flat blade as shown below.
If you use this on your hairless once a week he will stay smooth and stubble free ! |

Oster Turbo A5
This is a great shaver for grooming the body of your dog. You MUST use the "50 blade" so that you don't cut them. If you only have one dog you really don't need this because your "Wella" shaver will work just fine. If you have a few dogs, the "Wella" battery will run out before your done. |

Brushes, Combs, Nail Trimmers and Scissors
"Chris Christensen" brushes are the most popular but I also like "Vellus" shown on the right. If you get static in the winter, spray a little static guard on the bristles every few minutes.
An asortment of combs are nice to have and the two on the far right are used to help get out matts.
Scissors aren't that important for the "Cresteds" because you don't really trim their hair !
The Styptic Powder is nice to have in case you cut too close on the nails and get a little blood. Just pinch a little powder in your fingers and apply it to the end of the nail and it will stop bleed instantly.

Bathe, Shave and Moisten
Puppies need their baths. I use an Emu Oil Shampoo on my dogs. If they need to be smooth for a dog show I use "Coochy" shave cream along with a "Quad strip" razor. Make sure you don't try to get too far down on their legs or you can cut them. Shave mostly on the back, sides and upper legs. Shave in the "tail to head" direction to get them really smooth.
After the Bathe, Shave, Rinse and dry you'll want to use your "Braun" shaver to get the spots you couldn't get with the razor.
Now
it's time to oil them up to make them soft and smooth. The Emu Oil works great ! Below are the two kinds I use.
A little baby powder on their feet help fluff up the sparse hair they have and make them look a little fuller for the show ring. |

Nair Them Smooth
If you have a hairy hairless sometimes it easier to "Nair" them for the show ring. They usually stay smooth for a couple days and most dog shows are over a weekend. The "Vet Wrap" or flexible bandage is used around the hairy parts (feet, tail, crest on their head) to keep the "Nair" from getting into them. The nair only stays on for about 5 minues and when you are rinsing it off, wear the glove and rub the skin and it will help get any remaining hair. Be sure not to get too close to their private parts ! |
